July 18, 2008 - Ottawa - The Board of Directors of the Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Cherie Payne as Executive Director. Cherie will provide leadership in strategic planning, effective communications, targeted fundraising and sound investing - together with a commitment to building inclusive and caring communities.
Cherie brings fifteen years of business, public policy, communications, and management experience to MHI. She has served as a senior policy advisor at Health Canada, as legislative assistant to a federal Minister of Health, and as a political campaign advisor at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.
In the private sector, Cherie has led national teams in the delivery of communications and public relations campaigns for clients ranging from the New Zealand government, to health professional associations, to pharmaceutical companies, to law firms and insurance companies.
A graduate of McGill University and of Osgoode Hall Law School, Cherie has long been active in her communities of choice. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the AIDS Committee of Ottawa and of the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia, and as an advisor to the Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders Access to Essential Medicines Campaign in Geneva.
Cherie has lived and worked in three different regions of Canada, as well as in Switzerland, St. Lucia, and Australia. She also has travelled to Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Croatia, the Czech Republic, England, France, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

About the Multifaith Housing Initiative (www.multifaithhousing.ca)
The mission of the Multifaith Housing Initiative is to provide and to promote affordable home space, to encourage harmonious relations amongst tenants of diverse backgrounds, and to mobilise the resources of faith and other communities for these purposes. Funding for the Executive Director position for 2008/2009 has been generously provided by the United Way.
