[homeles_ot-l] Homelessness Partnering Initiative (HPI) - can you help this summer?

Hi everyone,

In the attached Memo you will find a message from our Chair Perry Rowe on
the federal Homelessness Partnering Initiative (HPI) with two suggestions on
ways you can help save this funding over the summer. We’d greatly appreciate
it if you would send a quick message for the ATEH Steering Committee via me
at HYPERLINK "mailto:lbrowne at ysb.on.ca"lbrowne at ysb.on.ca when you contact
people about HPI so together we can assess what more needs to be done.

The federal HPI funding program ends March 31, 2009, but, as many of you
know firsthand, our community will begin to feel the impact months earlier.
We need to renew HPI and avoid the disruptions in service that result when
there are funding gaps, or even worse, an end to much-needed funding. To be
successful we will need to reach out beyond ourselves and engage people
across Ottawa.

Attached are four tools we invite you to use in your efforts:

* Memo on Saving HPI — Two ways to help this summer

*      1, 2, 3 HPI  —   Background on the Ottawa HPI Story

* Contact information for Ottawa & Area Politicians, etc. – MPs, MPPs,
and Councillors

* Sample letter being used by Perry Rowe to assist in drafting your own
letters to engage others:

*	Consider reaching out to some of your supportive community contacts
to engage them in contacting politicians. We are thinking of people who have
been supportive of your agency’s work, people from any walk of life, who
might know federal politicians – (i.e., attended events, donated, joined
committees, etc.)

We’re looking forward to hearing about your efforts. Good luck!

Lynne

P.S. Watch for details in August on how you can help with a March to and
Demonstration on Parliament Hill in September to mark the 200-day point to
the end of the HPI funding. We’re in the very preliminary stages of
planning. I’ll be on vacation until mid August but will be in touch shortly
after I return. Thanks, Lynne
