Aboriginal Training Program in Museum Practices


DEADLINE MARCH 15, 2008

 

Gatineau, Quebec, February 4, 2008 - The Canadian Museum of Civilization is
now accepting applications for its Aboriginal Training Program in Museum
Practices (ATPMP). This eight-month program offers professional and
technical training in museum practices to Aboriginal People from across
Canada. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2008.

 

All training is under the supervision of the Museum's professional staff in
a variety of fields, including conservation, archaeology, documentation of
artifacts, archives, collections, ethnology, history and administration. The
experience Interns gain while at the Museum is valuable to both themselves
and their First Nation, as they will be able to play a vital role in
maintaining and sharing their culture with their community and others. This
internship offers a means for the Interns to return to their community and
assume a leadership role in cultural resource management. Training is
available in both official languages. 

 

This is the fifteenth consecutive year for the Aboriginal Training Programme
in Museum Practices. The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC)
established the ATPMP in September 1993 in response to recommendations in
the 1992 Task Force Report on Museums and First Peoples. Since its
inception, the CMCC Training Programme has enabled over 70 Aboriginal
trainees to complete the programme successfully.
