–       Program Update –

Hotel cut off extended to May 16!

Poverty Reduction in Ontario – Thursday June 12, 2008 – 8:30 a.m. – 9:00
a.m. – The office of the Honourable Deb Matthews, Minister of Children and
Youth Services has given preliminary confirmation of her attendance for this
session.  In her capacity as Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Poverty
Reduction, Minister Matthews will address delegates on the progress of the
Cabinet Committee on Poverty Reduction.   The Minister’s address will be
followed by a theatrical performance, titled Reflections by Family Life
Theatre from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.

Program Changes:  

Session 6.2 Panel on Energy has been changed to Sault Ste. Marie Innovation
Centre

This session will explain how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping
can be used in conjunction with other human service organizations to assist
in community and social planning.

Front Line Session:  6.6 Oh That Didn’t Hurt has been changed to Where Did
the Day Go

NEW Session:  6.7 Centralized Waiting List 

Centralized Waiting List

The City of Ottawa has, through a purchase of service, mandated Child Care
Information to manage the City’s child care waiting list for all families
who are seeking a space in a licensed child care program. The presentation
will focus on the Centralized Waiting List custom designed database as a
tool as it relates to: Parents-one point of access to register their
child/children’s name on up to 15 child care services waiting list; Child
Care Services Operators – an indispensable tool that reduces the
administrative tasks of administering their waiting list; City of
Ottawa-provide accurate detailed information and an invaluable planning
tool.

Throughout the symposium we will be taking advantage of the opportunity to
use the outdoor Roberta Bondar Pavilion.  We are scheduled to be in the
pavilion for our opening plenary on the morning of Wednesday June 11.  We
will use the hotel’s outdoor patio for such events as the opening meet and
greet on Tuesday, June 10 and the President’s reception on Thursday, June
12.  As such please make sure you bring clothing suitable for being
outdoors.  In the event of rain all events will move indoors. 

Fun, Fun, Fun

Fish Fry and Boat Cruise - Wednesday, June 11 

This event is included in with your registration.  

If you would like to purchase additional tickets they will be available at a
cost of $20.00 plus GST each at the registration desk on June 10 and 11

Thursday June 12  

 President’s Reception and Symposium Banquet

This event is included with full conference registration only.

If you would like to purchase additional tickets they will be available at
registration desk until 10:00 on June 12 at the cost of $75.00 plus GST each

Getting there

Air Canada has been appointed the official airline for 2008 Learning
Symposium.  Conference delegates can receive a 10% discount on eligible
return fares for flights taken between June 7, 2008 and June 16, 2008.  To

A Greyhound bus will be departing Toronto on June 10 and making stops in

Registrations that include bus transportation must be received by May 23,
2008.  Bus transportation is subject to cancellation due to lack of
registrations.  

In the event that the bus transportation needs to be cancelled, delegates
will be notified on May 23, 2008 by email.
