La version française suit.

The City of Ottawa is gearing up to launch the Home Ownership Program which
is part of the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program. The program
provides downpayment assistance to qualified lower-income purchasers for
homes at or below a defined purchase price.

This program is available to all the 47 Service Managers across Ontario and
provides down payment assistance to low and moderate income households
purchasing an affordable home.

The purpose of this program:

-Facilitate home ownership opportunities for low and moderate income
individuals or families
-Ease the demand for rental housing
-Free up social housing stock
-Provide low and moderate income individuals and families with an
opportunity to move up the socio-economic ladder.

When City Council agreed to get involved in this program, we indicated that
we would like to explore opportunities to encourage the provision of more
affordable housing products in the market, particularly for families. In
other words, not just helping families to buy homes that are already
available for sale, but seeing if we can improve the affordability of
housing for this segment of the market.

On May 21, an information session is being held, at 100 Constellation
Crescent, for potential developers (non-profit and profit), Financial
Institutions and Real Estate services. There will be a presentation of the
program guidelines by provincial representatives followed by a question and
answer session.

If you are interested in attending please email Jodi Dooling at
jodi.dooling at ottawa.ca by May 15 at the latest as there is limited space
available.
