This email is to advise you of two upcoming workshops in Ontario.

Offered through the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute, Inc.

Threat Assessment - Planning and Response - Trainer: Randy Grieser, MSW,
RSW

Ottawa - Feb. 4, 2009

London - Feb. 11, 2009

Toronto - Feb. 12, 2009

Knowing how to respond to a threat is a tremendous challenge. After a
violent incident, it is not uncommon to find that many different people were
aware of clues that an attack was being planned. Yet, without the proper
mechanism to gather all of that information and assess the situation,
prevention is nearly impossible. This workshop provides a communication and
decision-making model to help schools, businesses, organizations and
communities become proactive in their management of threats. Strategies to
help you identify, assess, and manage individuals who make threats will be
explored. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of how
to implement their own threat assessment team for their specific
environment.

Some of the topics covered:

        - Guiding Principles in Assessment

        - Types of Threats
        - Investigation and Assessment

        - Threat Assessment Team and Plan Development

De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations - Trainer: Paul Carrick, MSW,
RSW

Windsor - Feb. 2-3, 2009

Hamilton - Feb. 4-5, 2009

Sudbury - Feb. 9-10, 2009

For those who work in an environment where there is potential for violence,
it is important to develop the skills needed to defuse dangerous situations.
This workshop is designed to teach people to de-escalate potentially violent
situations through assertiveness and interpersonal communication. The
course will explore how anger and violence interplay, including
opportunities for self assessment of personal styles. Participants will
leave the workshop with a clear understanding of how to assess the potential
for violence and respond with a diverse set of interpersonal tools and
strategies designed to defuse potentially violent situations.

Some of the Topics Covered:

        - Potential Perpetrators

        - Pathway to a Violent Incident

        - High Risk Factors
