Attached is information about a new affordable housing campaign being
initiated by an alliance of housing groups, think tanks, unions and
social planning councils, in the hopes of raising the visibility of
Canada's affordable housing crisis and pressuring the federal and
provincial governments to respond. As part of the campaign, they plan to
tour with a 'house' that can be papered over in various communities with
pages from the endless reports calling for more affordable housing.
Participants can also fill out an "application" for affordable housing
that will be collected and then used to pressure various levels of
government. Very creative! They're looking for communities who are
organizing local housing or anti-poverty events in the coming months and
would be interested in including the "tour" as part of the event. Their
hope is to bring the house to events in at least 6 Ontario communities
in the new year, as well as many events across the GTA.
