[homeles_ot-l] Success this morning for affordable housing & homelessness in Ottawa

Good news everyone, 

 

This morning at the Community and Protective Services Committee, Councillor
Diane Deans introduced a motion on consolidating affordable housing and
housing supports, including homeless services and shelters, in Ottawa. ATEH
provided the committee with the attached submission before the vote. 

 

ATEH’s Vice Chair Marion Wright was there to speak to the motion if needed
as were speakers from the Ottawa Social Housing Network and the Supportive
Housing Network. 

 

We were all extremely pleased when Councillor Deans’ motion passed
unanimously. After it passed Alex Cullen made a point of thanking Councillor
Deans for her leadership on resolving this, and he and Councillor Holmes
both thanked ATEH for bringing attention to the issue.

 

Councillor Deans’ motion:

“Therefore be it resolved that Committee approve the re-integration of
existing social housing and residential supports with affordable housing
planning and that the position of Manager for Housing within Community and
Protective Services, responsible for social housing, shelter management and
new affordable housing development, be created at a senior manager level.”

 

Marion Wright will be speaking on the issue & motion on CBC radio’s Drive
Home Show at 4:15 today.

 

The motion now goes to the full Council. As soon as we know the date when
it’ll be on the agenda, we’ll let you know as your letters in support of
this motion will be very important to it being passed then.
