Intrepid reporter Harvey Cooper (with the Co-operative Housing Federation
of Canada – Ontario Region and a member of the steering committee of the
Housing Network of Ontario) was in Sault Ste Marie on June 16 for the
official launch of the Ontario government’s province-wide consultation to
create a new comprehensive provincial housing plan. Harvey snagged an
exclusive interview with Ontario Housing Minister Jim Watson, and a second
exclusive with Paul Frolich, a Soo-based housing and homelessness advocate.
He also captured the start of the consultation session. Links to the videos
are posted here <http://tinyurl.com/nz58d7>. (Note: Some of the frames are a
bit “wobbly”, but the material is well worth viewing.

Next stop for regional meetings is Peel on June 29! The Housing Network of
Ontario is supporting our community partners in the region to intervene
meaningfully in this process. Please get in touch if you would like to get
involved in local efforts and are from one of the communities being visited
by Minister Watson or Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing staff. We
are also working to support community work in areas not being visited by the
official consultations.

*The Housing Network of Ontario has created an on-line hub
here<http://stableandaffordable.com/>that is regularly being updated
with the latest news, reports from community
meetings, tips for actions and plenty of other resources.* More than 250
people and groups have endorsed the Housing Network of Ontario’s on-line
declaration: “We believe everyone in Ontario has the right to live
poverty-free and with dignity in housing that is stable, adequate, equitably
accessible and affordable… Read the full declaration and add your
