Subject: New Local Novel on Mental Health and Homelessness

Hi Lynne, further to our brief conversation of today, I would greatly
appreciate it if you circulated the following announcement to the list.serve
of the ALLIANCE TO END HOMELESSNESS. Thanks, Raymond

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing the launching of my new
novel, "Riding the Tides of Life". This book, written in English, is a
story of fiction partially based on facts.

The storyline is as follows: Greta Ludwig, a 29 year old Franco-Ontarian and
Métis widow, is the successful owner of a bookstore where a wide variety of
used and new books, New Age paraphernalia and Aboriginal items are sold. As
a result of the many stressors she encounters in her young life, she
experiences an acute manic episode which brings her on the brink of a full
blown mental breakdown and personal bankruptcy. She is admitted, against her
will, at an Ottawa hospital for psychiatric assessment and treatment.

Once she is discharged from hospital, she is followed-up by a psychiatric
social worker and becomes a member of a mutual support group. During one of
her follow-up visits at the hospital, she is introduced to a psychiatrist,
Dr. Walter Drover, who begins to play an important role in her life.

To facilitate her recovery, Greta volunteers at the soup kitchen of the
Shepherds of Good Hope, an Ottawa-based organization which serves the
homeless and the poor. Once she regains her self-confidence, she applies to
become a front-line-worker in the men's shelter of this non-profit
organization.

Six months later, Greta is brutally physically assaulted by one of the
residents at the shelter. Might this incident trigger another manic phase
of her underlying illness? Will she be able to return to work with the
homeless? Will she be forced to seek alternative employment and will she
find the courage to become involved with other volunteer activities? Will
the unrelenting support of family, friends, professionals and her
unflinching faith in her Creator and Mother Earth be sufficient to give her
the strength to cope with what appear to be insurmountable life challenges?

Please visit my blog raymondtremblay.blogspot.com or the "Members'
Books" section of the Ottawa Independent Writers' website www.oiw.ca for
specific information about where the book may be purchased from.

Interested parties can also purchase the book directly from me for the price
of $20 plus $5 to cover mailing costs unless pick-up or drop-off
arrangements are mutually agreed upon.

Please be advised that I am also available to meet with staff of various
groups/agencies/organizations and/or their clientele to introduce the
storyline of my novel and to describe what motivated me to write it.
