Action Alert from the Housing Network of Ontario

Please take 2 minutes this Friday, April 30th, to email or call your MPP to
reinforce the message that Ontarians need a Long-Term Affordable Housing
Strategy that will effectively reduce and eventually eliminate
housing-related poverty.

See attached flyer (and below) for suggestions of what to say, & how to find
your MPP.

The Ontario government says they will release their new Housing Strategy in
June. Every MPP in the province has been sent a copy of the Housing Network
of Ontario's '5 Tests for Success' of a long-term affordable housing
strategy and has been asked to endorse a housing plan that will effectively
reduce and eventually eliminate housing-related poverty in Ontario. The
draft strategy will soon go before Cabinet and it is important that
Ministers and MPPs hear from their constituents.

The "5 Tests for Success" are also attached. The "5 Tests for Success" were
released by the Housing Network of Ontario at Queens Park on April 19th to
outline what we want to see in the new Housing Strategy expected in June.
Check www.stableandaffordable.com <http://www.stableandaffordable.com/>   on
Monday April 19 to see the 5 Tests and media coverage.

FYI . . . In the flyer:

We need a Long-Term Affordable Housing Strategy that works!

On April 30th take 2 minutes to tell your MPP

The Ontario government says they will release their new Housing Strategy in
June.

Email or call your MPP on Friday, April 30th. Say you expect bold action to
address our housing crisis.

We need:

* Annual funding to build 10,000 affordable homes a year and for
ongoing maintenance;

* A new Housing Benefit to close the gap between high rents and
low-incomes;

*        A plan that works for marginalized communities;

* Legislative changes to better protect tenants and to promote
affordable housing;

* Accountability from government to meet their promises.

Visit www.stableandaffordable.com <http://www.stableandaffordable.com/>
for more information about the Housing Network of Ontario's '5 Tests for
Success' for a long-term affordable housing strategy.
