Please circulate reminder and this change -  after gathering Oct 19th  at 10 am on the Hill, participants will be marching to the Human Rights Monument on the east side of  Elgin at Lisgar Street (instead of the longer walk to the PM's home address).

Canada Day of Action for a Federal Housing Strategy 

Media Advisory - For immediate release

On October 19th, 2010 the Red Tent Campaign and housing advocates from across the country will stage a Canada Day of Action in support of a federal housing strategy and to ask the government to recognize that housing is a right. The Day of Action will be taking place on the day before Parliament is scheduled to vote on Private Members Bill C-304, "a bill for a national housing strategy", introduced by NDP MP Libby Davies. There will be a main action in Ottawa on Parliament Hill, with local actions taking place in cities all across the country. 

In Ottawa, the action will commence at 9:30 A.M. EST with a Press Conference in the Charles-Lynch Room at Parliament. The action will then move outdoors to the lawns of Parliament Hill, where one hundred Red Tents will be displayed as a symbol of the housing crisis in Canada, and speakers will address the crowd.  The tents will then be marched from Parliament to the Human Rights Monument on the east side of Elgin at Lisgar Street.
