Hello everyone,

Going to the Tuesday RED TENT Canada Day of Action for a Federal Housing Strategy on the Hill to support Bill C-304? 

We are looking for people to help transport the 100 red tents to the Hill. If you can help out, please meet at 8:30 am  at 1 Nicholas St.,  Suite 1210. (first street on east side of the Rideau Centre)

Ashton Starr will be there to meet you.  There will be a passenger van to aid transport of the tents. Below is the media advisory with the final details (in English and in French).

On October 19, 2010 the Red Tent Campaign and housing advocates from across the country will stage a Canada Day of Action in support of a federal housing strategy and to ask the government to recognize that housing is a right.  The Day of Action happens before October 20 when there will be the first hour of debate, at Third Reading, of Private Members' Bill C-304, (An Act to ensure secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing for Canadians), introduced by NDP MP Libby Davies. 

In Ottawa, the Day of Action commences at 09:30 Eastern with a press conference in the Charles Lynch Room. The action will then move outdoors in front of Centre Block on Parliament Hill, where speakers will address supporters of a federal housing strategy.  Supporters will then move to Wellington Street where 100 Red Tents will be displayed, symbolizing homelessness and housing challenges in Canada.  The tents will then be marched to the Human Rights Monument on the east side of Elgin, at Lisgar Street, for further demonstration. 

Local actions on October 19 are scheduled to take place in Victoria, Vancouver, Surrey, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, London, and Halifax (Oct. 16th).

Le 19 octobre 2010, la campagne des tentes rouges et des défenseurs du droit au logement de tout le Canada participeront à une journée d'action pour une politique fédérale sur le logement et pour exiger du gouvernement la reconnaissance officielle du droit au logement.  Cette journée d'action a lieu avant le 20 octobre, date à laquelle aura lieu la première heure des débats, en troisième lecture, du projet de loi privé C-304 (Loi pour garantir aux Canadiens un logement sécuritaire, adéquat, accessible et abordable), présenté par la députée NPD Libby Davies. 

À Ottawa, la journée d'action débutera à 9h30 (HAE) par une conférence de presse salle Charles Lynch. L'action se poursuivra à l'extérieur devant le bloc central sur la colline parlementaire, où les orateurs s'adresseront aux partisans d'une stratégie fédérale du logement. Puis les participants se rendront rue Wellington où le déploiement de 100 tentes rouges symbolisera l'itinérance et les défis canadiens en matière de logement.  Les tentes seront alors transportées au Monument des droits de la personne, rue Elgin, côté est, au coin de la rue Lisgar, pour une seconde manifestation.
