Subject: CRECS collaborative project considerations
Dear colleagues and friends of CRECS
On behalf of the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services (CRECS) at the University of Ottawa, it is my distinct pleasure to invite you to consider possibilities for collaborative evaluation and research projects at this time. Among other services, CRECS has an interest in assisting partner organizations with program evaluation, needs assessment and applied research projects. Perhaps your organization has projects that you would like to put forward.
There are at least two good reasons why now is a good time to begin thinking about collaborative projects.
1. Members of CRECS were co-founders of the Graduate Certificate in Program Evaluation (about ½ masters degree) at the University and the Certificate is affiliated with the Centre. In the fall of each year a new cohort of about 20 students begin the program and they are required to plan (fall) and implement (winter/spring) an evaluation or needs assessment study as part of their requirements. Many such students are looking for individual or team project opportunities.
2. CRECS now has over 30 senior and affiliate researchers most of whom are professors in various Faculties (e.g., Education, Social Sciences, School of Management) and departments (e.g., School of Psychology, Social Work, Criminology). Many of these researchers are actively working with graduate thesis students at master's and doctoral levels, some of whom are looking for thesis project opportunities.
Please find attached a form that you might use to suggest potential collaborative projects. If interested, it would be very helpful if you were to submit suggested projects to David Vincent at dvincent at uottawa.ca prior to Wednesday September 7. This date corresponds to the start of classes for the fall semester and there will be four sections of our preliminary course in program evaluation (two English-language, two French) beginning at this time. David will share with course instructors the project forms received so that students can be canvassed for interest. Please note that students are under pressure to identify their project focus within three weeks or so of the beginning of classes.
In addition to the course instructors, we can circulate your project ideas to senior and affiliate researchers.
Please note that we will do our best to coordinate responses through the CRECS administrative office.
We do look forward to hearing from you. Please do not hesitate to contact David Vincent (613-562-5800 ext. 1856) or me if you require further information or have the slightest question.
Best wishes for a great fall term!
Brad Cousins
