OTTAWA - - Put Food in the Budget launches its Diet Challenge today, January 24th.  During Challenge Week, 20 high profile Ottawans will take part in a public act of solidarity with people on social assistance: For three days to one week they will try to live with some of the very limited food options faced by people on social assistance in Ontario. Challengers include Ottawa MP Paul Dewar, Councillors Mathieu Fleury and Rainer Bloess, Ottawa's Medical Officer of Health Isra Levy, musician Jill Zmud, Whalesbone head chef Charlotte Langley and many others.

While the realities of poverty and food insecurity cannot be simulated over one week, it is the organizers' hope that this challenge will be a show of solidarity and will help to build the momentum for longer-term changes. The campaign is a part of the larger, province-wide Put Food in the Budget campaign, first launched in January 2009.

LEADERS COMMUNAUTAIRES PRENNENT LE DÉFI : METTRE FIN À LA FAIM 

Ottawa-Nourrissez le budget alimentaire lance le défi le 24 janvier. Durant la semaine défi, vingt personnalités- vedettes vont prendre part à un acte public de solidarité avec les gens sur l'assistance social: pour trois à sept jours, elles vont tenter de subsister n'ayant que les options alimentaires limitées disponibles aux individus sur l'assistance sociale en Ontario. Les vedettes du Défi inclus le député Paul Dewar, les conseillers Mathieu Fleury et Rainer Bloess, le médecin chef en santé publique de la Ville d'Ottawa, Isra Levy, la musicienne Jill Zmud, la chef à Whalesbone Charlotte Langley et bien d'autres. 

Bien que la réalité de la pauvreté et de l'insécurité alimentaire ne peut être simulée en une semaine, les organisatrices espèrent que ce défi sera un acte de solidarité et aidera à mobiliser les énergies nécessaires pour effectuer des changements à plus long terme. Cette campagne s'insère dans une campagne à l'échelle de la province, lancée en janvier 2009.
