Subject: Job Posting - Bruce House Volunteer Coordinator

 

Due to an upcoming retirement, we have posted the job of Bruce House,
Coordinator  of the Volunteer Support Program (see attached and inserted
below).  The deadline for applications is midnight October 31, 2011.


Bruce House, a community-based, not-for-profit organization with a 22-year
history of providing housing, compassionate care and support for people in
Ottawa living with HIV/AIDS, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced
professional for the position of Volunteer Coordinator. 

 

Coordinator, Volunteer Support Program

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator, Volunteer Support
Program, is responsible for developing, recommending and implementing short-
and long-term goals and strategies for ongoing volunteer recruitment,
training, retention and supervision in order to support and meet the program
and operational needs of the agency.

 

Overview of Responsibilities

·        Develop and implement strategies to meet overall agency and
program-related volunteer needs. 

·        Consult with program staff to assess and determine the volunteer
needs that support specific program-related activities and services. 

·        Recruit, interview, screen and assess volunteers to ensure
appropriate placement within the agency. 

·        Collaborate with program staff to develop and maintain volunteer
job position descriptions, competencies, goals and tasks in accordance with
identified needs.

·        Identify, build and maintain positive relations with volunteering
community groups, businesses and individuals wishing to raise funds or
volunteer for Bruce House. 

·        Coordinate and provide basic training and orientation to volunteers
and assist program staff in developing program-specific training.

·        Coordinate and assist program staff in scheduling volunteers to
participate in Bruce House programs and activities.

·        Prepare statistical reports on volunteer activities and evaluate
the performance of all activities in the volunteer management program,
making recommendations for future improvements. 

·        Contribute to ongoing evaluation of program objectives. 

·        Coordinate and facilitate regular volunteer meetings and volunteer
appreciation activities.

·        Provide information, coaching and encouragement to further develop
and improve the ongoing volunteer experience with Bruce House. 

·        Develop, recommend and implement annual work plans for the
Volunteer Support Program.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

·        Significant relevant experience (2-3 years) in managing a volunteer
program.

·        Minimum 2-3 years related work experience or proven track record
working within a volunteer- enabled environment. 

·        A degree or diploma in volunteer management or health/social
services diploma or equivalent experience.

·        Strong presentation, facilitation, coaching and process management
skills 

·        Community development and engagement experience.

·        Knowledge and experience with psycho-social issues related to HIV
and AIDS.

·        Detail-oriented, with excellent multi-project and time management
skills, demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and volunteer database
computer programs.

 

 

Languages:  

·        Strong communication skills (spoken and written) in English are
required. 

·        Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred (would be an asset).

 


Other terms and conditions:


·        Employment is conditional upon maintaining a valid driver’s license
and access to an automobile.

·        Employees will be required to work 36 hours per week. Some evening
and weekend work is required. 

 

Salary Range:  $34,500 to $38,400 plus group health benefits and an
attractive vacation package.
