Brief Summary:

Being homeless as well as having a mental illness is a terrifying yet common reality for a large percentage of the homeless population. Dr. Farrell will put a spotlight on homeless women’s mental health, exploring the harsh and difficult life of a homeless person with a mental illness.

Social determinants such as culture, education, gender, income, social status and childhood development all have a major effect on our mental health. We will explore these determinants in detail, explaining why and how there are so many homeless people who have mental illnesses.

The presentation will close with how Dr. Farrell and her team design and deliver clinical and community-level responses to addressing disparities in the social determinants of health. She will approach different ways her team is currently working to fix this problem and ways that the community can help too.
