Social Planning Council

Hi Lynne:

Could you please post this on the listserv?

Thanks, Jenny

This year's Marion Dewar Defender of the Public Good Awards event,
hosted by the Social Planning Council of Ottawa (SPC), will be held on
the evening of Thursday, October 18th at St. Joseph's Parish Hall, 151
Laurier Avenue East.

As many of you know, this is an event that celebrates those individuals
or organizations in our City who have made an outstanding contribution
to social justice and community well being. It has been aptly named
after Ottawa's former mayor who understood so well the importance of
building community.

This year's event highlights two organizations/programs that have
contributed greatly to the success of the SPC's new Building Greener
Futures Together (BGFT) program. The BGFT program acts to increase the
number of good green jobs, particularly for youth facing labour market
barriers, while improving the sustainability of the local housing stock.
The two honourees this year are: Operation Come Home and the Ottawa
Carleton District School Board's Winning Attitudes program.

If you would like further information on the BGFT program, please follow
this link:

http://www.spcottawa.on.ca/building_greener_eng

We do hope you can join us on the evening of October 18th. Tickets are
$35 per person which includes a delicious buffet supplied by Ishina.

Please call the SPC Office at 613-236-9300 to reserve your spot.
