CAEH announces keynote speakers for national conference

The CAEH is thrilled to announce Second Cup founder  <http://caeh.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ab6441cec1986db191b15a35&id=101e6a47ab&e=052211c246> Frank O'Dea and former UK 'homelessness czar'  <http://caeh.us5.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=3ab6441cec1986db191b15a35&id=4f674a55e4&e=052211c246> Louise Casey will provide keynote addresses to the National Conference on Ending Homelessness October 30th. 

As a young man, Frank O'Dea was homeless, living on the streets, panhandling for nickels and dimes. Today, he is a celebrated business person. Best known as a founder of The Second Cup, he was also involved in launching a number of other successful international businesses and not-for-profits. His current projects include developing affordable housing in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Thompson, Manitoba.

Louise Casey currently leads the Troubled Families unit in the UK Department for Communities and Local Government. In 1999 Ms. Casey was recruited out of the voluntary sector to lead Prime Minister Tony Blair's Rough Sleepers Unit tasked with reducing rough sleeping in England by 70 percent. Having achieved that goal in 2002, Ms. Casey was then appointed to lead the UK's Homelessness Directorate. North American plans to end homelessness draw their inspiration in part from the Rough Sleepers Initiative and successful homelessness reductions in the UK.

Government to present implementation plans for renewed HPS program at national conference

The Homelessness Partnering Secretariat will host a session on implementing the renewed and refocused Homelessness Partnering Strategy at the National Conference on Ending Homelessness.  This will include an update on the implementation approach, tools and resources to support the move to Housing First and expectations for demonstrating results.

Saskatoon begins plan to end homelessness

Buoyed by success in other communities the United Way of Saskatoon has begun working with community partners on the development of a  <http://caeh.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3ab6441cec1986db191b15a35&id=329419e48a&e=052211c246> plan to end homelessness.

Winnipeg aims to complete plan to end homelessness in 2013

Winnipeg's Poverty Reduction Council’s Task Force to End Homelessness recently told Downtown BIZ members they aim to complete their plan to end homelessness in 2013

“We’re trying to provide a blueprint of what it will take to end homelessness in the next decade,” <http://caeh.us5.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=3ab6441cec1986db191b15a35&id=473f3b6ab9&e=052211c246>  said Rob Johnston, RBC regional president, who co-chairs the task force.
