HOUSING IMPACTS CHILDREN’S HEALTH:

Join paediatric colleagues and endorse

the Canadian Child and Youth Health and Housing

ACTION STATEMENT!

 <http://www.housingandchildhealth.ca> www.housingandchildhealth.ca

Representatives from key paediatric health sciences centres have worked
together to raise the awareness of the impact of housing on the healthy
development of children and youth, and to facilitate a national dialogue on
this important determinant of health.

Housing is much more than shelter. It plays a crucial role in the healthy
development of children and youth, and influences immediate and long-term
physical and mental health. When children live in housing that is crowded,
too expensive or in need of major repair, they are at increased risk of
injury, psychological distress, malnutrition, lower school performance,
behaviour problems, and exposure to communicable diseases.

 <http://www.housingandchildhealth.ca/> www.housingandchildhealth.ca
