Frostbite Advisory Overnight February 15 and Morning February 16, 2014

Ottawa Public Health is issuing a  Frostbite Advisory, for  overnight February 15, and morning of February 16, 2014. A Frostbite Advisory is issued when a wind chill of -25 or colder is forecast.  Key service providers including homeless shelters, outreach workers, community resource centres, schools and daycare centers are encouraged to closely monitor the local weather forecast and take cold weather precautions to ensure the safety of individuals.

Service providers may take direct action or, in the case of a homeless person, may call the "Help for the Homeless" phone line at 3-1-1 or 613-580-2626. Calls are answered by the City's call centre on a priority basis and referrals are made to the appropriate services. Through this initiative, we can all play a role to ensure that vulnerable populations are kept safe and warm during the winter months. Santé publique Ottawa émet une alerte aux engelures pendant la nuit du 15 février et le matin du 16 février 2014. Une alerte aux engelures est en vigueur lorsqu’un refroidissement éolien atteignant   -25 ºC ou plus est prévu. On recommande aux principaux fournisseurs de services, notamment les refuges pour sans-abri, les travailleurs de proximité, les centres de ressources communautaires, les écoles et les services de garde d’enfants à surveiller de près les prévisions météorologiques locales et à prendre des précautions pour assurer la sécurité des personnes par temps froid.

Les fournisseurs de services peuvent intervenir directement ou, si la personne en situation de risque est un sans-abri, communiquer avec la ligne téléphonique d’aide aux sans-abri au

3-1-1 ou au 613-580-2626. Le Centre d’appels de la Ville d’Ottawa prendra les appels en priorité et les acheminera aux services concernés. Grâce à cette initiative, nous pouvons tous jouer un rôle pour assurer que les populations vulnérables sont en sécurité et au chaud durant l’hiver.
