Below you will find an invitation to the launch of a very exciting pilot program that has been developed by the Poverty and Hunger Working Group (PHWG). Please pass it within your networks.

The Ottawa Poverty Reduction Network (OPRN) has been a member of the PHWG since its inception three years ago and sits on the MarketMobile Steering Committee. This is the second major initiative of the PHWG, the first being the Good Food Markets which are now in their third summer and operating in eleven communities across the city. If you want info on the Markets such as locations and hours, please let me know. The MarketMobile website will be up soon and will have dates and locations for the stops in all the pilot communities.

The official launch is being held at Morrison Gardens and will include lots of activities for the family as well as an opportunity to check out the bus and see how we are bringing fresh food to communities that are not well served with regular shopping options. Morrison Gardens is just west of Greenbank and south of the 417 near IKEA - a map of the location is at:

On behalf of the Poverty and Hunger Working Group, we would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the launch of the MarketMobile at Morrison Gardens located at 985-A Morrison Drive on Saturday, July 26th at 11:00am. Please find attached a map of the event location. 
 

The MarketMobile is an innovative new program that uses a chartered OC Transpo bus to bring affordable, high-quality, fresh vegetables and fruit to Ottawa communities that have limited access to healthy foods.  The produce on the bus will be selected based on residents’ needs and cultural preferences, purchased in bulk and sold on a cost recovery basis. The MarketMobile will visit four communities on a rotational basis every Saturday from July 26 until the end of December.
 
Together with our partners, Ottawa Public Health, the Coalition of Community Health and Resource Centres, Ottawa Community Housing, Loblaws, and our four pilot communities (Morrison Gardens, Caldwell, Hunt Club East and Vars) we hope that you will be able to join us to launch this exciting initiative!

Au nom du Groupe de travail sur la pauvreté et la faim, nous aimerions vous inviter à vous joindre à nous pour célébrer le lancement du Marché alimentaire mobile à la maison communautaire Morrison Gardens située au 985-A, promenade Morrison, le samedi 26 juillet à 11 h. Vous trouverez ci-joint une carte de l'emplacement de l'événement.
 
Le Marché alimentaire mobile est un programme novateur qui utilise un autobus nolisé d'OC Transpo pour offrir des fruits et des légumes à prix abordables et de grande qualité aux collectivités d'Ottawa qui ont un accès limité à des aliments sains. Le choix des produits dans l'autobus sera basé sur les besoins des résidents et les préférences culturelles. Ce sont des produits achetés en vrac et vendus sur la base de récupération des coûts. Le Marché alimentaire mobile passera dans quatre collectivités sur une base tournante tous les samedis à partir du 26 juillet jusqu'à la fin de décembre.
 
De concert avec nos partenaires, Santé publique Ottawa, la Coalition des centres de ressources et de santé communautaires d’Ottawa, Logement communautaire d'Ottawa, Loblaws et nos quatre collectivités pilotes (Morrison Gardens, Caldwell, Hunt Club Est et Vars), nous espérons que vous pourrez participer au lancement de cette initiative passionnante.
