The Ontario Provincial election takes place on Thursday, June 12.

The Provincial government plays a vital role in our community's efforts to
prevent and end homelessness.

What do Ontario parties have to say about affordable housing and solutions
to homelessness?

ATEH Inquiry to Ontario parties

As noted last week, the Alliance to End Homelessness, along with a
consortium of local coalitions, wrote to party leaders seeking clarity on
these issues within the Ottawa context. To-date, we have received a response
from the Ontario NDP.

the original letter, can be found here.

We will post responses from other parties as they are received.

Ontario Campaign 2000 and the 25in5 Network for Poverty Reduction - inquiry
to Ontario parties

Issues of affordable housing, income and solutions to homelessness were
included in a survey by this provincial network to provincial parties.
Responses from the Ontario Liberal, NDP and PC parties are summarized here.

Mayor of Ottawa inquiry to Ontario parties

The Mayor of Ottawa also wrote to party leaders seeking clarity on five key
issues for Ottawa. Two questions are of particular interest with regards to
efforts to end homelessness. The Mayor asked:

*	(3) The Federal Government and the Province are working towards a
new Affordable Housing Framework Agreement. This will be a shared cost
program. Does your political party agree that the Province of Ontario should
provide their share of this program? Yes__ No__
*	(4) The Province of Ontario began "uploading" approximately $1.5
billion in social services costs in 2008 following the signing of the
Provincial-Municipal Fiscal Service Delivery Review Agreement between the
Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Provincial Government. The
program of "uploading" will not be fully completed until 2018 and will also
include the uploading of certain police service costs. Does your political
party agree that the Province of Ontario should complete the implementation
of the 2008 Agreement on the agreed upon schedule as planned? Yes__ No__

Each of the four parties responded, with the Ontario Green, Liberal and NDP
parties answering 'Yes' to both questions, with some parties providing
additional context. The PC Party responded with a statement on campaign
priorities.
