Dear: Ottawa Community

December 10th is International Human Rights Day. Do you or your organization have any plans?

As we know, Canada is falling far behind on its committments under international human rights law. Canada has signed the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights along with other international legal instruments and therefore, has an obligation to realize those rights, yet, sadly, it seems in recent years we are going backward rather than forward on our committment to human rights in this country.

We believe that being in the Nations capital, we should make some noise about it! We believe in the importance of keeping a culture of human rights alive in Canada and think it is up to us shine this light. We could be celebratory, or we could be critical, or maybe a little bit of both.

Our organization, the Center for Equality Rights in Accommodation plans to host an outdoor artistic action around youth housing rights, but we believe in the power of numbers, and so are humbly curious to know if anyone else is interested in taking space the morning of Wednesday December 10th to make some noise about the value of Human Rights in Canada.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Peace,
Narmeen
