Landlord and Tenant Law with Respect to Mental Health, Addictions, and
Evictions - Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to provide a better understanding of the
interpretation of legislation
around Landlord and Tenant law and how it applies to tenants who are at
risk of eviction due to mental health issues and/ or addictions. It is open
to front line workers of non profit agencies who work with those who are
experiencing homelessness.

This workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 12:30p.m at
100 Constellation Crescent in the Library Room. Workers can register
online at the link below:

The workshop provides an overview of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the
Residential Tenancies Act, and the duty to accommodate a tenant who has
mental health issues and/ or addictions. It demystifies the process of how
the Board reaches its decisions, and describes circumstances that must be
considered prior to making a decision to evict a tenant.

The workshop provides practical information illustrated by case examples.
The presentation also includes a special ‘Support Worker’s Section’ geared
specifically to the issues that workers may face when dealing with tenants
who are at risk of eviction. This workshop is sponsored by the Community
Capacity Building Training Program
.

The Community Capacity Building (CCB) Training program is funded by the
Homelessness Partnering Strategy/ Employment and Social Development Canada;
managed by The City of Ottawa, and designed to help the non-profit service
agencies in Ottawa who work with those experiencing homelessness.
