JOB TITLE: HARM REDUCTION OUTREACH WORKER
Status: Full-time contract
Salary Range: $23.42 to $28.21 per hour and 4% vacation pay. Eligibility to join the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
Hours: 35 hours per week

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addictions, the Harm Reduction Outreach Worker provides support, health education, and needle exchange/safer inhalation supplies to people who use drugs, as part of our NESI program. Services are offered on site at the community health centre, as well as in a variety of outreach locations, including the mobile van. The position requires flexibility in hours of work and will involve 2-3 evening shifts per week.
Job Specific Responsibilities & Requirements
* Excellent knowledge of and experience with a harm reduction approach.
* Good understanding of health promotion, HIV and HCV transmission.
* Knowledge of related community resources.
* Experience with homelessness, mental health and addictions.
* Ability to assess and manage crisis situations.
* Ability to work comfortably in non- conventional settings.
* Excellent communication skills and sensitivity to people with differing values and belief systems.
* Sound judgement and strong problem solving skills.
* Ability to work independently, set priorities and manage time effectively.
* Commitment to working within a diversity and social justice framework
* Valid driver's license and safe driving record
* Fluency in English; French and other languages an asset.
* Proficient use of computers and various software applications.
* Successful criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related health discipline
* Minimum of 3 years experience working with people who use drugs and high risk populations
