I am pleased to attach an evaluation of the rent assistance pilot for persons experiencing chronic homelessness in Waterloo region conducted by Courtney Pankratz for her MA thesis in community psychology at Laurier.


The findings provide convincing evidence of the importance of rent supplements for housing stability and psychosocial outcomes in the context of Housing First.  This research is timely in light of the federal government's upcoming federal housing strategy that will hopefully include a portable housing benefit.

FYI, we have an article that provides more detail on the findings currently under peer review. Also, the Ontario Housing First Network will be having a webinar on rent assistance to present these findings, with the researchers and Waterloo and Ottawa describing their approaches to rent assistance.
