FYI – For more information please contact Pierrette directly.
The Mental Illness Caregivers Association (MICA) is sending you this invitation for the 17th edition of Art in Strathcona Park on Saturday, August 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and to ask for your help to promote it. Artists and artisans and undiscovered talents will come together to sell their work directly to the public and to raise public awareness about mental illness. More than just original art, Art in Strathcona Park also offers jewellery, pottery, stained glass, wood carvings, hand-made soap and honey, to name just a few, and will also feature a silent auction and a BBQ - something for just about everyone!
Art in Strathcona Park is a fundraising and public awareness event sponsored by Mental Illness Caregivers Association (MICA). Did you know that in any given year, 1 in 5 Canadian experiences a mental health problem or illness? The sad fact is that we are all touched in some way by mental health issues through a family member, a friend or a colleague. Unfortunately, the reality is that public misconceptions, fear and the stigma associated with having a mental illness may discourage people from seeking help for themselves or their family member.
At MICA, we are committed to assisting caregivers and their family members manage the effects of mental illness and/or addictions through education, guidance and support including how to navigate the mental health and/or addiction systems. We know that well-supported caregivers in turn provide better support to persons living with a mental illness by helping them to manage or recover from their illness. It is our hope that through Art in Strathcona Park, MICA will continue to have the necessary resources to help families improve their capacity to provide quality care to their relatives, and also help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
Please help us by letting your community know about this wonderful opportunity this summer to showcase or view art in one of Ottawa’s most beautiful parks, and to help a good cause at the same time! Our public postcard is also included and can be uploaded to your Facebook page.
