Shepherds of Good Hope is one of the largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to the needs of homeless and vulnerably-housed in the city of Ottawa. We provide around-the-clock, comprehensive services to all genders, most of whom live with addictions, mental health challenges and trauma. From a 254 bed shelter, to our 5 supportive living residences across the City of Ottawa, over 450 individuals sleep in our facilities each night. PAY RATE:                           $13.93 - $21.21 per hour, Unifor Local 8300 Wage Scale

1.       Days of the week - you must be available to work a minimum of 8 shifts per month, including weekends

2.       Shifts - DAYS (7am to 3pm), EVENINGS (3pm to 11pm) and OVERNIGHTS (11pm to 7am)

3.       Preferred Work Locations - We have locations across the city of Ottawa including Kanata, Merivale Road and downtown.  There are opportunities for cross-training in multiple programs.

YOU CAN OFFER US


*         Post-Secondary education in social science or equivalent experience.
*         Knowledge of addiction, mental health, violence against women and poverty issues.
*         Demonstrated ability to use non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) principles and a health promotion approach.
*         Knowledge of harm reduction philosophies.
*         Demonstrated problem-solving skills, good judgement, assertiveness and independent decision making.
*         Compassion, caring and empathy.
*         Experience in maintaining accurate records and statistics.
*         Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
*         Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Bilingualism is an asset.
*         Dependability, commitment and availability for a variety of shifts on a weekly and monthly basis.
*         A police records check for the vulnerable sector, satisfactory to Shepherds of Good Hope.
*         Ability to lift up to 25kg.


RESPONSIBILITIES


*           Establish and maintain professional working relationships with our high acuity, complex clients while ensuring the respect, dignity, and individuality of each client and staff member.
*           Support the clients with basic needs, life skills and initial case management.
*           Crisis prevention and de-escalation.
*           Liaise with community partners to better serve clients.
*           Use harm reduction, strength based and motivational interviewing approaches when working with clients.
*           Participate in the development and implementation of client programming (i.e., in-house activities).
*           Maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with program requirements.
*           Follow program procedures for distribution of medication and other supplies.
*           Record activities in the program log in accordance with Shepherds of Good Hope policies.
*           Act independently and function as part of an overall team.
*           Engage in client advocacy.
*           Casual Front Line Workers fill full-time and regular part-time staff absences, sometimes upon short notice.
