New Research on the Reliability and Validity of the VI-SPDAT: Implications for Coordinated Assessment

Coordinated assessment tools provide standardized measurements of client mental and physical health, and social vulnerability when determining appropriate housing needs in social services where finite resources exist. However, it is important to check these tools against reliability and validity measures. The blog post highlights the results from a recently published academic study on the validity and reliability of the popular VI-SPDAT tool.

International Forum Report 2018

The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association

An international forum on social and affordable housing was held in April 2018 by The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). The forum resulted in the “International Forum Report 2018" which provides updates on the current state of housing policies in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Factors Associated with Drop-In Center Utilization Among Unaccompanied Youth Experiencing Homelessness

This study examined a sample of 226 youth experiencing homelessness in the U.S. to determine which individual and interpersonal factors had the most impact on how frequently they accessed drop-in centres. Read the results of the study to learn more.

Vancouver Street View: Using Google Streetview to Show What's Changed and What Can Be Done

Raincity Housing

Homelessness in Metro Vancouver has increased significantly over the last three years, highlighting the need for increased investment in social housing. In response, Raincity Housing launched an interactive awareness website called Vancouver Street View that uses photos taken from Google Streetview to showcase the increased visibility of homelessness in Vancouver's streets from 2013 to 2017. Family Care Curriculum: A Parenting Support Program for Families Experiencing Homelessness

Families with children are the fastest growing population amongst those experiencing homelessness in the United States. This article discusses the Family Care Curriculum (FCC); a unique parent support program designed to facilitate positive parenting in families experiencing homelessness using attachment-based, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive interventions.

For some youth, the experience of homelessness has a negative impact on academic performance. This journal article asked youth experiencing homelessness to discusses the interventions they believe can help improve educational outcomes within this demographic. The results of this article have implications for homeless-serving organizations seeking to provide better support programming for youth.
