Heatherington Land Trust is looking for a photographer/photojournalist/writer who would be interested to work on a community arts project to document the final days of Herongate, a vibrant, inner-city family neighbourhood.

We are applying for an Ontario Arts Council "Artists in Communities” project grant. We will be able to cover artist fees, travel expenses, equipment costs and eventual exhibition costs, among other things.

Herongate has extreme levels of racialized poverty – it has Ottawa’s highest percentage of visible minorities at 70% and is the 2nd poorest neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is currently facing unprecedented levels of destruction of family homes and displacement by one landlord, with nowhere for families to go. It is presumed many will fall into homelessness and end up in the shelter system. In addition, the cultural fabric of the neighbourhood will be forever transformed and its character will be lost.

Please contact Heatherington Land Trust if you are an artist interested in this project at info at heatheringtonlandtrust.ca <mailto:info at heatheringtonlandtrust.ca> or the facilitator Josh Hawley by phone at 514-377-8616.

Sincerely,

Josh Hawley
