Good day,

We are reaching out to you today as you may be interested to hear that the
public call for applications for the* National Housing Council *has
launched and is now accepting applications. The National Housing Council is
a key component of the recently passed *National Housing Strategy* *Act*,
which is now law. Individuals interested in submitting their application to
be considered for the Council can apply *here

The public call for applications is open from *August 20 to October 14,
2019*.

This new Council will provide advice to the Minister responsible for the *NHS
Act*, including on the effectiveness of the National Housing Strategy (NHS)
with the aim of improving housing outcomes for all Canadians. The Council
will support the progressive realization of the right to adequate housing,
as recognized in the *International Covenant on Economic, Social and
Cultural Rights*, and will help promote accountability, participation and
inclusion in keeping with a human rights-based approach to housing.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is managing this process and
will provide the administrative services and facilities to assist the
National Housing Council to perform its duties and functions.

*Who can apply? *

Any Canadian who is 18 years of age and older (as of January 1, 2019) can
apply for this unique opportunity. We are looking for diverse
representation on gender, official languages, regions, Indigenous groups,
persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S, racialized communities and people with
lived expertise of housing need or homelessness. Individuals will be
selected for the Council based on their expertise and knowledge, not as a
representative of an organization.

The Council will have up to 15 diverse individuals, with different
backgrounds, including individuals with lived expertise of housing need or
homelessness, as well as those who have expertise in human rights.
Appointed by the Minister, members will serve for a three-year term.

Housing Council that represents Canadians and the housing and human rights
community. We encourage you to share this information broadly with your
networks to help spread the word about the Council, in order to generate

national du logement *a été lancé et que les candidatures sont maintenant
acceptées. L’établissement du Conseil national sur le logement est un

Canadiens. Le Conseil soutiendra la réalisation progressive du droit à un
logement convenable, qui est reconnu dans le *Pacte international relatif
aux droits économiques, sociaux et culturels*, ainsi que la
responsabilisation, la participation et l’inclusion, conformément à une
approche du logement axée sur les droits de la personne.

La Société canadienne d’hypothèques et de logement (SCHL) gère ce processus
et fournira au Conseil national du logement les services administratifs et
les installations dont il a besoin pour s’acquitter de sa mission.

*Qui est admissible?*

Tous les Canadiens âgés de 18 ans ou plus (au 1er janvier 2019) peuvent
postuler pour ce rôle unique. Nous cherchons à créer un Conseil ayant une
représentation diversifiée : genres, langues officielles, régions, groupes
autochtones, personnes handicapées, membres de la communauté LGBTQ2S,
communautés racialisées et personnes ayant connu des besoins en matière de
logement ou vécu l’itinérance. Les membres seront choisis en fonction de
leur expertise et de leurs connaissances, et non en tant que représentants
d’une organisation.

Le Conseil pourra compter jusqu’à 15 personnes, aux antécédents variés, qui
ont connu des besoins en matière de logement ou vécu l’itinérance, ainsi
que de gens possédant une expertise en droits de la personne. Nommés par le
ministre, les membres auront un mandat de trois ans.

national du logement diversifié et inclusif qui représente les Canadiens,
le secteur de l’habitation et la communauté des défenseurs des droits de la
