Greetings supporters,
The Board of Directors of the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa (ATEHO)
is very pleased to announce that Kaite Burkholder Harris is our new
Executive Director. Kaite has worked for several years at the national
level, most recently for the Federal Government with Reaching Home:
Canada’s Homelessness Strategy and prior to that as a Community Systems
Planner with the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness. Her work has largely
involved supporting the early implementation of Coordinated Access with
communities across the country and doing community-level systems planning
to prevent, reduce and end homelessness. Kaite spent a number of years
working as the Project Manager for A Way Home Ottawa in preventing and
ending youth homelessness - an initiative of the Alliance. Having served as
frontline worker at a number of Ottawa-based service providers, Kaite has a
strong understanding of the way that policy can impact people living on the
street, and the ways that we can make changes to support people to thrive.
In particular, Kaite has had the opportunity to learn from First
Nations, Métis, and Inuit Service Providers and stakeholders over the past
number of years, and is strongly committed to listening to and supporting
Indigenous-led solutions to ending Indigenous homelessness in Ottawa as a
necessary part of reconciliation. Kaite is inspired by the ways in which
communities are working together to see real reductions in homelessness
across the country and is excited to be joining the Alliance in this
critical work.
Kaite will join the Alliance on March 16 and will send a communication then
with her contact information. You can continue to contact the Alliance by
emailing info at endhomelessnessottawa.ca until February 28th. The Alliance
will not be monitoring email between March 2-13.
Please join us in welcoming Kaite to her new role. We are thrilled to be
working with such a capable and accomplished leader in the area of
homelessness and housing and look forward to enhancing the Alliance’s work
in our community.
Sincerely,
Deirdre Freiheit
Chair, Board of Directors
