Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting windchill values of -25 or colder over the next several days, especially during the nights and early mornings.  Because the daytime temperatures will fluctuate quite a bit, and include both warmer than usual and very cold temperatures, it will be important to check the weather forecast daily.
Environnement et changement climatique Canada prévoit des valeurs de refroidissement éolien de -25 ou plus froides au cours des prochains jours, surtout pendant la nuit et tôt le matin. Ottawa Public Health is issuing a Frostbite Advisory.  A Frostbite Advisory is issued when a wind chill of -25 C or colder is forecast by Environment and Climate Change Canada.  Key service providers including homeless shelters, outreach workers, community resource centres, schools and daycare centers are encouraged to monitor the weather and take cold weather precautions to ensure the safety of individuals.

Service providers may take direct action or, in the case of a person experiencing homelessness, may call the "Help for the Homeless" phone line at 3-1-1.  Calls are answered by the City's Call Centre on a priority basis and referrals are made to the appropriate services.

Alerte aux engelures du 18 janvier 2022 jusqu’à nouvel ordre

Santé publique Ottawa émet un avis de risque d’engelures.  Une alerte aux engelures est en vigueur lorsqu’un facteur de refroidissement atteignant -25 C ou moins est prévu par Environnement et Changement climatique Canada.  Les principaux fournisseurs de services, notamment les refuges pour sans-abri, les travailleurs de rue, les centres de ressources communautaires, les écoles et les garderies sont encouragés à surveiller la météo et à prendre les précautions nécessaires par temps froid pour assurer la sécurité des personnes.

Les fournisseurs de services peuvent intervenir directement auprès de leur clientèle.  Si celle-ci est une personne sans-abri, appeler la ligne téléphonique d’aide aux sans-abri au 3-1-1‎.  Le Centre d’appels de la Ville d’Ottawa prendra les appels en priorité et les acheminera aux services concernés.
