Hello everyone,

The Fraser River Discovery Centre is looking for items (non-artifacts) that can be added to our education collection.

In the Centre, we have a number of exhibits including a section on archaeology with a dig table. We also use this table in our ‘Trading Trails’ education program with visiting schools and groups. Which explores how people have used and shared the resources of the Fraser River, with a focus on when First Nations and European fur traders first shared the river.

Currently, in the table are several items (wooden float, compass, net needle etc.). We are hoping to add more, including but not limited to shells, smoking pipe, fake fish models (ex. eulachon, salmon), carved utensils, and other small items that would fit the general time frame of our program.

If anyone has items they are removing from their education collections, or recommendations, please reach out to us at programs at fraserriverdiscovery.org<mailto:programs at fraserriverdiscovery.org>

Please note, we do not have a formal collection of artifacts as such any items collected will be regularly handled and not kept in collections space with environmental controls.

Thank you,

Michaela Dickens

The Fraser River Discovery Centre is located on the traditional territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Halq̓eméylem speaking peoples. Territory acknowledgement is one small part of Reconciliation. Please take a moment to think of other ways you can participate in Reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
