[BCMA] Funding Practices and Capacity in Rural Museums and Art Galleries in Canada

Hello BCMA colleagues,

I am an arts administration and cultural policy researcher currently conducting a national study examining funding access, grant-writing capacity, and alternative funding strategies among rural museums, galleries, and heritage organizations in Canada. The findings will contribute to an upcoming chapter in Small Museums and Art Galleries in Canada (ed. Matthew Ryan Smith, University of Manitoba Press).

Despite the important role rural cultural organizations play in preserving history, supporting community identity, and enhancing quality of life, many continue to face significant funding and capacity challenges. This research aims to better understand those experiences directly from practitioners and identify opportunities to strengthen support for the sector.

The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Participants can include staff, volunteers, board members, and practitioners working in rural museums, galleries, archives, heritage sites, historical societies, and related cultural organizations across Canada.
