interest in international development and cooperation issues, working
together to achieve sustainable global development in a peaceful and healthy

ACIC seeks the services of responsible, energetic, and experienced

Project Summary:

ACIC is planning to organise two International Development Week activities
in Atlantic Canada. The first activity, an essay contest, is intended to
engage a large number of Atlantic Canadian youth by encouraging discussion,
reflection, and action on issues of global poverty and the role Canadian’s
can play in eliminating it. It involves inviting Atlantic Canadian youth to
write an essay on one of the following themes: HIV/AIDS, Child Protection,
Basic Education, Environment, Health and Nutrition, or Governance. Prizes
will be awarded for the top essay in each province as determined by a panel
of judges comprised of ACIC’s coordinator, an ACIC member engaged in
development education, and an individual from the school system.

The second activity is a two-day Atlantic youth conference on international
development. The theme of the conference would be “Move Your WORLD” and
approximately 40 youth from across Atlantic Canada would be invited to come
together to learn, share, connect, and develop action plans that address
global poverty. The conference would be designed to be highly interactive
and have a strong focus on developing concrete actions to ensure that the
impact of the conference extends past International Development Week. The
hope is to invigorate a sense of global citizenship and awareness amongst
Atlantic Canadian youth.
