Job Posting: Community Canvass Coordinator
About the EAC
The Ecology Action Centre is Nova Scotia's oldest environmental
organization acting as the voice of the NS environment since 1971. With
almost 900 members, 150 active volunteers and seven issue committees,
the Centre focuses on transportation, wilderness preservation &
forestry, coastal issues, urban planning, renewable energy, agriculture
and food, and marine conservation. EAC's mission is to encourage a
society in Nova Scotia which respects and protects nature and also
provides environmentally and economically sustainable jobs for its
citizens.
About the Position
The Ecology Action Centre has designated September as membership month.
There will be a number of activities around the province to promote the
Centre's membership base. Our focus is a community canvass in the HRM
area. The EAC is looking to hire an experienced canvass coordinator.
This individual would be required to coordinate the logistics of the
canvass and supervise the canvassers for a five week period (with the
possibility of an extension) and ensure that the canvass is a success.
Responsibilities of the Position
-Assist in the training and hiring of the canvassers
-Choose target neighborhoods
-Coordinate transportation
-Log each night's activity
-Prepare final canvass report
-Mange canvassers and canvass schedule
-Make sure the canvass is meeting its projections
-Motivate Canvassers
-Assist with canvassing
Qualifications / Skills Required
-Leadership skills
-Canvass experience
-Supervisor experience
-Management Skills
-Communication Skills
-Organization Skills
-People Skills
-Interest in environmental issues
This position is part-time (5-6 hours per day, primarily evenings) and
compensation will be $15 an hour. Application deadline: August 11, 2006,
4 pm. Start Date: August 21, 2006.
