Vigil for Afghanistan

4:30-5:30 PM
Wednesday, December 27, 2006
Victoria Park, Halifax
(Corner of Spring Garden Rd. and South Park St.)

Join us to mark the 27th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan
and to call for an end to the current Canadian combat mission. This year,
the Afghani people have suffered from constant NATO bombings that have
destroyed villages and have killed innocent civilians. Most Afghanis are
destitute. Many are starving and homeless. 27 years of war is enough. It's
time for peace in Afghanistan. It's time for dialogue, disarmament and real
development. At 5:00 PM, we will have a short, solemn funeral-like
procession through downtown. Please dress warmly and bring a candle.

Wish Afghanistan peace this holiday season.

"Every day our children are dying from NATO bombs... The coalition
is killing our children. Our life is living with suffering. It is too
much.."
-Speech given by Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai
Sunday, December 10, 2006 as reported by the Associated Press

*Please circulate widely - thank you!
Please try to come to acknowledge the innocent Afghanis who have been killed
and who are suffering because of our combat mission there.

(*Please help us also send a message that we do not want the US spraying
Monsanto herbicide on the poppy crops in the spring!)
