FUNDY BAYKEEPER PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Conservation Council of New Brunswick wants to hire a
highly motivated recent university grad who is interested
in a career in the environmental movement. Under the
auspices of our Fundy Baykeeper Program, a member of
the Waterkeeper Alliance ( http://www.waterkeepers.ca ),
the coordinator will become involved in many issues of
importance in the lower Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine
and help build the Fundy Baykeeper Program into a strong,
long-standing force for environmental protection.

Requirements:

Applicants must be 30 years or younger, have a post-
secondary degree, and be eligible to work in Canada. The
position is subsidized by the federal Youth Career Focus
program. Candidates must not have been previously
employed in a position funded by this program.

Duties:

Under supervision of the Marine Program Director, the
Fundy Baykeeper Program Coordinator will implement a
strategic plan for the Fundy Baykeeper program, including
carrying out a policy and education project on sustainable
aquaculture. Tasks include (but are not limited to) research
and report writing, issue advocacy, event coordination,
media relations, website and listserv maintenance, funding
proposal development and reporting to funders.

Skills:

Besides having a passion for protecting the environment,
the successful candidate will have a thirst for learning,
excellent writing and speaking skills (English mandatory,
French an asset), be highly motivated and self-directed, be
comfortable working in an unstructured environment both
independently and as part of a team, be willing and able to
assume a high level of responsibility for a project from
start to finish, show initiative to seize and develop new
opportunities.

A post-secondary degree in a relevant field would be
Environmental Studies, Marine or Environmental Sciences,
or a degree with a focus on environmental policy.
Demonstrated previous involvement in environmental
issues (ie. volunteer, summer job, student organizations)
is important as well.

The first twelve months of this position will be treated as
an internship and will include training modules on key
aspects of the position such as project management,
communications and proposal writing. After twelve
months, the position becomes a regular CCNB staff
position.

Time frame and remuneration:

This is a full-time position (40 hrs per week). Salary for the
first twelve months will be entry level at $25,000/annum.
After one year, salary will be within a range of $30,000 to
$36,000 and job designation will change to Program
Director.
