Atlantic Science Links Association, a non-profit charitable 
science education program located at Dalhousie University 
in Halifax, NS, is currently seeking applications for the 
position of Coordinator.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the 
coordination of the projects of two programs Scientists and 
Innovators in the Schools (SITS) and the Science and 
Technology Awareness Network (STANet). Previous 
experience working with not-for-profit organizations 
would be an asset.

Terms: Start-up funding in place. Position dependent on 
candidate helping to generate additional program funding. 

Full-time position.

COORDINATOR DUTIES:

Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day administration of the 
organization:
* fielding telephone and e-mail inquiries
* monitor, direct, and coordinate programs and services. 
Projects include: Speakers Bureau (coordinate volunteers to 
fulfil NS school visit requests), Ask-A-Scientist web site, 
STANet database, Climate Change teacher workshops, and 
other science outreach activities
* manage finances
* prepare and implement operational objectives, plans, and 
budgets
* coordinate volunteers
* create and deliver educational programs and teacher 
workshops
* act as liaison between ASLA and various partners
* write reports and funding proposals
* web site design and maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS

* 1 or more years in an administrative role
* B.Sc. degree
* Excellent organizational and time management skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to 
deal with persons from various sectors including 
government, universities, media, public, teachers, children, 
other nonprofit organizations and corporations
* Ability to develop cooperative working relationships
* High degree of self-motivation and ability to work 
independently
* Solid understanding of basic scientific concepts
* Understanding of public relations, including the ability to 
deal with the media, write PSAs, press releases, articles and 
newsletters
* Computer proficiency with applications such as MS 
Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel), Adobe 
Office Suite (PageMaker, Photoshop, Reader), and MS 
FrontPage
