Environmental Home Assessment Program (EHAP) Staff Needed
 
Clean Nova Scotia delivers the Environmental Home Assessment Program in the Central Region (Halifax Regional Municipality, East and West Hants) and Northern Region (Cumberland, Antigonish & Guysborough, Colchester, and Pictou counties) of Nova Scotia for the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour. This program provides environmental home assessments to homeowners who are served by wells and on-site septic systems. Participating homeowners are provided with water and wastewater assessments for their property, as well as receive water quality sampling kits, a Home Oil Tank System Checklist, water saving devices, samples of environmentally friendly cleaners and oil tank gauges. Homeowners can also receive a $50 rebate if they provide proof that they have pumped their septic tank. 
 
Clean Nova Scotia is currently seeking two program officers (one for each region). This position starts immediately and goes until March 2007 with the possibility of extension.
 
Salary will be commensurate with experience and based on standard Clean Nova Scotia scale. Only the successful candidates will be contacted for interviews.
 
Responsibilities include:
*      Conducting 100 home assessment visits by the end of March 2007
*      Booking the home assessments
*      Marketing the program with the assistance of Clean Nova Scotia's Communication Coordinator; this includes staffing display booths at various venues and writing articles for various community papers
*      Tracking septic tank pumpings and issuing rebates
*      Writing monthly and bi-annual reports
*      Conducting follow-up surveys as required
*      Assisting and reporting to Clean Nova Scotia's EHAP coordinator as required
*      Meeting with the Department of Environment and Labour as necessary
 
Qualifications:
*      Experience with septic systems, wells and oil tanks
*      Understanding of water conservation strategies and environmentally friendly products
*      Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
*      Ability to multi-task and prioritize
*      Excellent organizational skills
*      Bachelors in environment-related studies and/or equivalent environmental experience
*      Valid drivers license and car (travel required)
