Harold,

I am a retired architect from Missouri (US) and recent permanent
resident of Canada. As the architect for the Missouri State Parks, I
designed a 4000 sq ft park contact station using SIP's. In this
design, I used a structural panel, i.e. the panels were designed to
carry the loading of the building. Most often, you see SIP's used in
conjunction with timber frame construction. The load is carried by
the timber frame while the SIP's are the skin of the building.

Some of the advantages are:

superior insulation,
off site cutting of window and door openings,
wiring chases cut into panels,
fast enclosure or erection time in the field.

Some things to watch include:

the need for a perfectly square and level foundation in the field,
when used as roof decking, do not shingle directly on the panels,
panels must be furred and decked for shingles.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to call or email me.
Miramichi Timber Frames located in Miramichi, NB fabricates both
timber frames as well as SIP's. You can find them at
