Program Coordinator Required: March - October 2008

Clean Nova Scotia will be implementing Halifax Regional Municipality's
Property Pesticide Application Assessment Program this summer. This
program requires staff to respond to applications from homeowners who
wish to use pesticides on their lawns to determine whether they have an
infestation that merits a permit. In addition, staff provide information
to homeowners on lawncare alternatives and respond to homeowners'
inquiries. Presentations to store employees are also required. We
require a Program Coordinator to ensure these deliverables are met. This
is a contract position, March - October 2008.

Responsibilities include:
* Train staff to inspect lawns to determine if they have an infestation
that merits a pesticide permit, i.e. approve or deny request to spray
pesticides
* Co-ordinate schedules of inspectors
* If required, inspect homeowners' lawns 
* Talk with homeowners about the alternatives to pesticide use
* Create and conduct presentations for store employees
* Create education materials for retailers
* Respond to telephone inquiries 
* Complete reports for Halifax Regional Municipality and Clean Nova
Scotia
* Maintain website with assistance of Clean Nova Scotia's Communications
Coordinator
* Develop new educational materials if necessary
* Record all information accurately
* Provide quality assurance/quality control

Qualifications:
* Bachelors of science, biology, chemistry, environmental science,
agriculture, or other environment-related degree and/or equivalent
environmental experience 
* Knowledge of horticulture, entomology, sustainable lawn care,
gardening, etc.
* Project coordination experience 
* Strong communication skills (verbal and written); excellent phone
manner 
* Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
* Ability to work well in a team environment
* Good computer skills and experience with common software packages
* Experience developing and delivering educational material an asset 
* Valid driver's license and vehicle required
