"FUTURE OF FOOD" - SCREENING & DISCUSSION
Date: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3
Time: 7-9 P.M.
Venue: COMMUNITY ROOM, MAHONE BAY CENTRE, MAHONE BAY
Address: 45 SCHOOL STREET, MAHONE BAY
Telephone number: 902-489-2524
Movie Description: "THE FUTURE OF FOOD offers an in-depth
investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled,
patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S.
grocery store shelves for the past decade. From the prairies of
Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives
a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively
impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government
policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why
many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered
crops into our food supply.Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and
Mexico, THE FUTURE OF FOOD examines the complex web of market and
political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational
corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also
explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing
organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm
crisis today."
"ONE MAN, ONE COW, ONE PLANET" - SCREENING & DISCUSSION
Date: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7
Time: 7-9 P.M.
Venue: LUNENBURG ACADEMY
Address: THIRD FLOOR ASSEMBLY HALL, 97-101 KAULBACH STREET, LUNENBURG
Telephone number: 902-489-2524
Movie Description: "What does an environmentally friendly biodynamic
food system capable of feeding everyone actually look like? This film
is a blueprint for a post-industrial future. It takes you into the
heart of the world's most important renaissance. The outcome of the
battle for agricultural control in India may just dictate the future
of the earth." -- "The goal of this project was to use a universally
accepted medium - documentary film - to expose an agricultural
technology not widely understood outside a reasonably esoteric group
of practitioners. And to set this technolgy in a social, cultural and
political paradigm that would take the audience on a journey beyond
the 'how-to' into an undertstanding of how the world balances on such
old/new technologies as biodynamics".
