Hi All,

Scientists and Innovators in the Schools (SITS) for Nova Scotia.

*Position available: Atlantic Science Links Association Coordinator *
Deadline: July 13, 2009
The Atlantic Science Links Association (ASLA) is currently seeking
applications for the position of Coordinator. The successful candidate will
be responsible for the coordination of the Scientists and Innovators in the
Schools (SITS) program. Previous experience working with not-for-profit
organizations would be an asset.
Terms: Start-up funding in place. This is a full-time position, which may be
dependent on candidate securing additional program funding. Salary to be
determined.
*Coordinator Duties *
Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day administration of the organization:
· respond to telephone and e-mail inquiries
· monitor, direct, and coordinate programs and services. Projects
include: Speakers Bureau (coordinate volunteers to fulfill NS school visit
requests), Ask-A-Scientist web site, Climate Change Action Pack teacher
workshops, and other science outreach activities as required (committees,
teacher conferences, science fairs, etc.)
· manage finances
· prepare and implement operational objectives, plans, and budgets
· coordinate current volunteers and recruit new volunteers
· create and deliver educational programs and teacher workshops
· establish and maintain relationships between ASLA and various
partners including environmental, scientific, and educational partners
· write reports, funding proposals, and grant applications
· web site design and maintenance
*Qualifications:*
· one or more years in an administrative role
· B.Sc. or B. Ed. degree with a specialization in science
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to deal
with persons from various sectors including government, universities, media,
the public, teachers, children, other nonprofit organizations and
corporations
· Ability to develop cooperative working relationships
· High degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently
· Solid understanding of basic scientific concepts
· Understanding of public relations, including the ability to deal
with the media, write public service announcements, press releases, articles
and newsletters
· Computer proficiency with applications such as MS Office Suite
(Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel).
