Tatamagouche Centre and Mi'kmaw Youth Bundle Keeper, Star Child Eliza Knockwood, offer you a warm welcome to the Seven Circles of Creation Exhibition Tour (SCCET) that will be visiting Tatamagouche Centre for the 6th Annual Peace and Friendship Gathering, August 16, 3pm to August 20, 3pm, 2009.
 

Join in a cross-cultural experience of First Nations arts and culture, to create positive change and to bridge the cultural gap that youth, elders and traditional teachers within communities and abroad are challenged with, such as communication, unity, traditional knowledge and exchange of ideas in providing youth with tools to build a stronger and hopeful future. 

 

Tatamagouche Centre is the only non-First Nation community that the SCCET is visiting during this summer. The Tour will gift a 21-foot Teepee, which is the key symbol of the SCCET's visit to each community, to the Peace and Friendship work of Tatamagouche Centre. Children are invited to "lay claim to" the tepee by placing their red ochre handprints on the canvas.

 

Over the 4 day visit, all are welcome to join in intergenerational artist-directed workshops, trainings, community performances, resources and a community-produced documentary DVD. From the lighting of the Sacred Fire at 3pm on Sunday to the ceremony of its extinguishment on Thursday, you will be a part of a safe nurturing environment, and experience the uniqueness of all participants, "living while leaving the least amount of foot prints on our Mother Earth in the Spirit of the Natural World; to be of one body, one heart and one mind for Peace."

 

Tatamagouche Centre is thrilled to be a stopping place for this innovative cultural event. You can also contribute by making a donation, and bringing children to place their red ochre handprints on the tepee. And also plan to take in the program during the day, and/or stay the night for more activities, music, camping and spirit!

 

Mi'kmaq filmmaker, musician and educator, Catherine Martin, and Wampanoag spiritual leader, gkisedtanamoogk, will also be present to offer sacred leadership in ceremony, and a warm welcome to all. 

 

Cost:    $320 includes meals, accommodations, program for 4 days. 

            Please come for as little or as long as you would like (we will pro-rate the cost).

            Children can attend with their caregivers at a reduced rate. Bursaries are available.
