Position: Idle-Less Program Developer

The TRAX project of the Ecology Action Centre is seeking a

part-time program developer for a period of six months. The

program developer will plan and implement the initial phases

of an idling reduction campaign in two Nova Scotian

communities. The program developer will work closely with

all members of the TRAX team and will report to the TRAX

coordinators.



TRAX's mandate is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and

air pollution from the passenger transportation sector and

to increase the viability of sustainable transportation

options in Nova Scotia. The Idle-Less Project achieves this

mandate by reducing energy use and emissions.



Immediate Responsibilities

* Design an evaluation strategy for the Idle-Less project,

that measures reductions in energy use

* Partner with two communities in Nova Scotia to deliver the

idling reduction campaign

* Develop educational and promotional materials for the campaign

* Implement pre-campaign evaluation and execute the campaign

itself



Ongoing Responsibilities

* Managing project finances

* Developing and delivering workshops

* Responding to community inquiries and concerns

* Responding to media inquiries

* Maintaining project website

* Supporting TRAX volunteers and employees

* Liaising with advisory committees

* Participating in and supporting the overall work of the

Ecology Action Centre



Skills and Experience

* Strong interest in sustainable transportation and climate

change issues

* Familiarity with urban and rural Nova Scotia

* Excellent research and strategic thinking skills

* Experience working with the media

* Experience developing and managing projects and budgets

* Experience working with NGOs and municipal governments

* Strong organizational and administrative skills

* Strong communication skills

* Strong time management skills and an ability to effectively

manage multiple tasks

* Computer literacy in MS Office, including Word and Excel

* Persistent, diplomatic, optimistic, team-oriented approach

* Masters in Transportation Planning, Environmental Studies,

Health Promotion or equivalent work experience an asset



Start: June 29, 2009

Wage: $21.04/hour; 20 hours/week

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
