Project Coordinator-Active Transportation Campaign
Living Earth Council (LEC) and the Municipality of Colchester
Recreation Services

The Living Earth Council (LEC) is a grassroots organization based in
Truro, Nova Scotia.  Established since 2007, LEC envisions itself as a
powerful catalyst for social and environmental transformation, working
to inspire innovative action for a sustainable future through various
projects that promote health and well-being, local community-building,
and enjoyment of our living earth (www.livingearthcouncil.ca (

LEC, in partnership with the Municipality of Colchester Recreation
Services, is currently seeking candidates for the position of Project
Coordinator in the undertaking of the Move-On Colchester project, a
community-based campaign aimed at advancing the wider use of active
transportation (AT) in the Colchester region.  Recently approved for
funding by  EcoAction and with contributions from municipal and
community partners, the proposed Move-On Colchester project will be
conducted  from July of 2009 through March of 2011,and include the
following activities: 
·         preparation of an asset map of existing AT programs and
infrastructure
·         undertaking of two surveys, to determine the level of
community AT participation before and after program implementation
·         implementation of three new campaigns  that will have
measurable impacts on both the environment and community participation
in AT; these will be the Bike-More campaign, the Walk-More campaign,
and
the Go-Slow campaign
The main responsibilities of the Project Coordinator will include:
Ø     organization  and implementation of all project activities
according to work plan and budget
Ø     management of project timeline and budget
Ø     communications with project partners and the wider community
Ø     accountability to the project steering committee
Ø     engagement and coordination of a large team of community
volunteers
Qualifications for the position:  
·         University degree or college diploma in community
development, recreation management, or related discipline
·         3 + years experience in project management; background in
public relations and social marketing would be an asset
·         strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage
various partners in a common cause
·         excellent  communication skills (verbal and written)
·         experience and effectiveness in community outreach work
·         ability to manage a project within budget
·         creativity and flexibility
·         ability to work both independently and as part of a team
·         working knowledge of Active Transportation
 
Work location and hours:  The Project Coordinator will work out of
Truro, and be hired for a part-time position, 25 hours/week, over a 2
year term.
