The Sierra Club Canada -- Atlantic Canada Chapter is a non-profit environmental organization based out of Halifax, NS. Sierra Club Canada is a member-based organization that empowers people to protect, restore, and enjoy a healthy and safe planet.

Our focus is on five overriding threats: loss of animal and plant species; deterioration of the planet's oceans and atmosphere; the ever-growing presence of toxic chemicals in all living things; destruction of our remaining wilderness; and spiralling population growth and over consumption.

Since 2003, the Atlantic Canada Chapter has been delivering environmental education programs to elementary and high school students throughout the Atlantic Provinces. The programs are all hands-on, interactive and action-based!

Launched this fall our Wild Child Nature Immersion Program is an exciting program that offers environmental programming for after-school child care services. Children participating in Wild Child are exposed to natural environments outside and engage in a variety of experiential activities and games that are chosen to foster a sense of wonder for the world around them. Building on this connection, the participants are then introduced to basic ecological concepts, knowledge, and then finally discover how their decisions can positively or negatively impact their environment. This program has already received extensive media coverage; it was featured on CTV's Live at 5 program and written about in the Dartmouth addition of SNAP Magazine. To see what the wild children have been up to, please check out the Wild Child Blog at http://atlantic.sierraclub.ca/en/blog/wildchild .
